Bob Cain will talk about how to increase the productivity of your vegetable garden by introducing vertical elements. The presentation will include types of structures to use, vegetables which will grow successfully vertically and the theory behind this approach. Integration of this approach into your regular vegetable plot will also be discussed.

Bob Cain has been a Master Gardener since 2009 and served as Foundation President, Vice President, Board member, Woodcock Garden Manager and on Master Gardener training staff since 2011. He contributes regularly to the Sequim Gazette, KSQM radio and gives many local presentations.


Keith Dekker  will discuss pruning trees and landscape shrubs. He has been involved in horticulture for over 47 years. For the last 32 years his career has focused on the comprehensive care of residential landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. As a Clallam County Master Gardener and active volunteer with PlantAmnesty, Keith contributes to his community by teaching classes and giving talks to promote best practices for successful, sustainable gardening. Keith lives on the Olympic Peninsula with his wife, and Arlo the wonder dog.

 


Jeanette Stehr-Green is a berry enthusiast and enjoys growing, picking, and eating berries! She will share her berry expertise. She has grown a variety of berries (including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) on the North Olympic Peninsula for over 20 years and enjoys teaching others how to improve the quality and size of their berry harvest. Jeanette has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003. She writes gardening articles for local newspapers and participates in gardening programs on local radio stations. Jeanette loves teaching and is a frequent speaker at Master Gardener and other educational events. Jeanette was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year and has attained the Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners.


Margery Whites will focus on identifying factors important for selecting the right plant for the right place in your yard, planning your garden and landscape here in the North Olympic Peninsula and being able to effectively problem-solve gardening challenges.

Margery moved here from Minnesota in 2015 and quickly found the climates were very different. She became a Master Gardener in 2016 to get acquainted with gardening issues.


Laurel Moulton, a member of the Expert Panel, is the Master Gardener Program Coordinator in Clallam County, and Regional Horticulture Specialist for the WSU Regional Small Farms Program. She teaches courses for home gardeners in entomology and IPM topics, trains Master Gardener volunteers to provide community education in sustainable gardening, and provides on farm pest and disease consultation services to small farmers.  Laurel was the Assistant Manager of the Olympic National Park Native Plant Nursery, and a Botanist and noxious weed management specialist for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. She received her MS in Horticulture Systems with a focus in weed management and entomology from Oregon State University.


Gordon Clark, a member of the Expert Panel, owns and operates Clark Horticultural, a full-service organic landscape maintenance company specializing in ornamental pruning. He has a certificate in Environmental Horticulture from Lake Washington Institute of Technology, has been a Certified Professional Horticulturist for over 20 years and a Certified Arborist for 18 years. Gordon has been a Master Gardener since 2021.

 


Muriel Nesbitt, a member of the Expert Panel, was born and raised in Bellevue, WA, and received her Atrium Baccalaureus from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She was high a school teacher at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 1963-66.  Muriel received a PhD in Genetics from the University of Washington in 1970 and was Assistant Professor at UCLA from 1970-72, Associate Professor, Professor and Senior Lecturer at University of California San Diego 1972-2007. She has been a Clallam County Master Gardener from 2009 to present.
